Fehrer Newspaper and Publication Collection

newspapers and printed material spanning through both World Wars, and
through the 1970's. Most materials are from the Maryland general area,
but also included are newspapers from Knoxville, New York and
Philadelphia to show different perspectives of news reporting for the
same dates. One topic of importance not pertaining to either World War
is that of space travel, and the frenzy it brought to the press as seen
through newspapers and printed materials in this collection. Some
newspaper are full editions, however, most are partials preserving the
front page and first section, and sometimes including comics and sport
sections. |

Ferrand Photo Collection

photographs documents several aspects of life in and around Salisbury,
Maryland including employment at the Wayne Dresser Factory, firemen
extinguishing a downtown blaze and the aftermath of a devastating flood.
Various photographs of boating, buildings and nature are also included.
Photography club newsletters and a Salisbury Camera Club anniversary
program can be found in the Printed Material Series. The dates
associated with the photographs are not clearly known, however, can most
likely be attributed to the 1950's and 1960's. |

Fondes (Robert) Collection (2004.099)
2 boxes The Fondes collection focuses primarily on
the lives of the Fondes family chronicling their experience which is
uniquely American. The collection includes various materials,
correspondence, newspapers, articles, publications, print material, and
several family mementos including print and tintype photos, watches and
wedding flowers. Robert Parker Fondes philanthropic activity is also
chronicled in the collection along with various genealogical materials
which traces the family history to England and later the Eastern Shore
as part of the Fowkes family. Several items such as catalogs, research
articles and print materials were used to gather information on an
antique clock dating back to 1814 which was later donated to the
Chipstone Foundation and a family quilt crafted by a member of the
Parker family. Other specific subjects touched upon include Tabitha
Parker Fondes early and professional education including grade reports
and college exams. The collection also contains information tracing the
family's impact on the origins of the Methodists church on the Eastern
Shore. Several interesting items yield from Alex Parker Fondes's time in
England while working as a playwright. A small portion of the collection
centers on the rebirth of the Occohannock tribe of Native Americans on
the Eastern Shore in 2001 and the John F. Kennedy assassination
featuring the original newspapers. Of note is a 1913 Women's magazine, a
1923 children's comedic magazine and 1908 hymnbook. |
