Early American History Conference Collection (1984.021sm)

This notable collection of research papers were originally presented at one of two 1984 conferences held in celebration of Maryland's 350th anniversary. The conferences were sponsored by Institute of Early American History and Culture. The first was also co-sponsored by John Hopkins University. The second was co-sponsored by the Maryland State Archives, St. Mary's City Commission, St. Mary's College of Maryland, and the Maryland Humanities Council. The papers focus on a variety of subjects all relevant to early colonial life in Maryland and Virginia including Native Americans, migration, diet, free blacks, craftsmen, communities and religion. Theses papers along with the papers presented at the other conference were later published in 1988 by the University of North Carolina Press and edited by Lois Green Carr, Philip D. Morgan and Jean Burrell Russo.

This small collection contains genealogical information on the Dashiell family as well as tax lists from Wicomico County and Princess Anne located in Somerset County, Maryland.


Eastern Shore Cultural Collection (2005.083)

This collection contains a variety of material on several topics relating to the sailing, the Chesapeake Bay and bridge, activities of the Eastern Shore Society of Baltimore, a review of the history of the Nassawango Iron Furnace and social interactions in St. Mary's City, Maryland in the colonial period. Featured prominently in the collection is the Chipman Foundation as well as a yearbook commemorating the Shorebirds, the baseball team of Salisbury, Maryland. Also of interest are the statistical profiles of the counties of the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland and a portfolio of prints featuring images unique to Delmarva.

This small collection totaling one bound volume contains three academic research papers on the subject of Economic Change in the Chesapeake Colonies. The papers were presented in 1977 at the Regional Economic History Conference. Although bound, the title of each paper has been listed.

This collection contains one copy of the book: Recollections: Wicomico and One Room Schools which was produced by the Wicomico County Retired Teachers Association in 1977. It gives the history of one room schools throughout Wicomico County, Maryland including supplies, transportation, condition and Negro Schools. A pictures of each school is featured along with a brief history for each with personal accounts.
