Background
The Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture is an
archives, library, exhibit source, publication center and learning lab dedicated
to preserving and facilitating research on one of the country's most important
regions: the Delmarva Peninsula, America's earliest Ellis Island. Its mission is
to cultivate and sustain the advancement of scholarly research through
collecting, preserving, disseminating and providing access to records and
artifacts which illustrate the rich historical and cultural heritage of the
greater Delmarva region.
The Edward H. Nabb Research Center houses an extensive collection of original
artifacts, documents, photographs, maps, and survey records from the colonial
era through the present day. Its collection includes all media formats (paper,
electronic, film, objects, analog and digital formats of audio/video, etc.). It
contains over 4,000 volumes on the history of the Chesapeake region and more
than 2,000 reels of microfilm of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia newspapers,
census, land, court and church records.
Among its notable collections one can find early narratives from explorers
who sailed along Delmarva's coast, a rare 1790 surveyors compass crafted by
Goldssmith Chandlee sought by museums nationally, first-hand accounts and
letters of Clara Gunby's Civil War memoirs, a collection of slave narratives and
a rich folklore collection documenting the customs, traditions and beliefs of
the people of Delmarva.
Public Relations internship
Objective
The Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture at
Salisbury University seeks nominations for a public relations internship. This
internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain professional level experience
in public relations and media communications.
Duties
Working with and reporting to the Reading Room Coordinator and Director, the
primary duties are researching, writing, editing and distributing press
announcements and web content. The intern will also write and edit materials for
events, meetings and outreach activities, assist in obtaining media coverage and
maintain the editorial calendar.
As a member of the staff, the Public Relations Intern is expected to
participate in staff meetings. Weekly journal entries are also required.
Selection Criteria
To be eligible, candidates must possess a gpa of 3.0 or higher. Interns must
commit to 10 hours per week during the working hours of the 8:30 to 5pm Monday -
Friday. Preference will be given to candidates majoring in English or
Communication Arts or with previous experience in cultural institutions or
public relations.
Qualified candidates must possess excellent writing, editing, proofreading
skills; be proficient in Microsoft Office applications; possess the ability to
work both independently and collaboratively; the ability to manage projects and
meet deadlines; experience in setting priorities, be friendly and possess
excellent interpersonal skills.
Archival internship
Objective The Edward H. Nabb Research Center for
Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury University seeks nominations for an
archival internship designed to provide paraprofessional experience in a
cultural institution under a professional Archivist. The internship provides an
excellent opportunity to explore a career in cultural institutions.
Duties
Reporting to the University Archivist, the primary duties are processing and
collection management. The Archive Intern will be responsible for arranging and
describing collections, preparing finding aids, digitizing photographs, creating
electronic catalog records of collections, photographs and artifacts. The
position may also assist in accessioning, preservation, planning and other
activities.
As a member of the staff, the Archive Intern is expected to participate in
staff meetings. Weekly journal entries are also required.

To be eligible, candidates must possess a gpa of 3.0 or higher. Interns must
commit to 10 hours per week during the working hours of the 8:30 to 5pm Monday -
Wednesday and Fridays. Preference will be given to candidates majoring in
history and anthropology or with previous experience in cultural institutions.
Qualified candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications;
possess the ability to work both independently and collaboratively; the ability
to manage projects and meet deadlines; experience in setting priorities, the
ability to lift 40 lbs and possess excellent communication, interpersonal,
organizational skills.
Education internship
Objective
The Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture at
Salisbury University seeks nominations for an education internship. Working
closely with experienced professional educators the intern will design and
develop educational programs for the university community. The internship also
serves to expand the applicants' knowledge about the field of museum education
and provide guidance for professional development.
Duties
Reporting to the Reading Room Coordinator, the primary duties are developing
educational programs and enhance existing offerings by taking full advantage of
the Nabb's archival and library resources. The intern will identify relevant
resource materials, create resource lists, and organize information for use by
the Salisbury University faculty. The intern will also collaborate with staff to
publicize the educational programs and offerings.
As a member of the staff, the Education Intern is expected to participate in
staff meetings. Weekly journal entries are also required.

To be eligible, candidates must possess a gpa of 3.0 or higher. Interns must
commit to 10 hours per week during the working hours of the 8:30 to 5pm Monday -
Friday. Preference will be given to candidates majoring in education or history
or with previous experience in cultural institutions.

Exhibit Design internship
Objective
The Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture at
Salisbury University seeks nominations for an exhibit design internship. The
intern will assist in researching, planning and installing an exhibit for the
Nabb Research Center.
Duties
The Exhibit Design Intern contributes to a safe environment by using
appropriate materials, equipment, and methods to display archival material.
Working with our Exhibit Manager, the intern will plan and coordinate key
aspects of the exhibit, such as planning major visuals, colors, and formats,
collaborate with subject matter experts regarding exhibit needs and create
supporting materials for the exhibit.
The intern may also be asked to conduct research pertaining to works slated
for exhibit, obtain information for proposed exhibits and work with our Exhibit
Manager on long-range exhibition planning issues.
As a member of the staff, the Exhibit Designer Intern is expected to
participate in staff meetings and maintain an exhibit calendar. Weekly journal
entries are also required.
