Historical
Note
The amphibious invasion of Normandy beach occurred in June
1944, with the goal of seizing and establishing an Allied
foothold in France to compliment the Italian front. In doing
so, the combined efforts of the Soviet and Allied armies
would have surrounded Germany from all sides. However, the
initial invasion met with stiff resistance specifically at
the American Omaha Beach landing. The casualties for the
Allied armies by the end of the operation in July numbered
approx. 120,000 men.
