Nabb Research Center Citation Information

Also see: Citing Sources for Proseminar | Physical Collections

* Citing Sources for Digital Collections:

Various disciplines have different citation styles. As such, we recommend that you consult the style manual associated with your discipline when referencing the resources on this site in your academic or professional work. If you are uncertain about the proper format after consulting a style manual, ask the professor or editor for which the paper is being written.

The following are recommendations and examples of possible citation styles:

Citing Biographical Profiles
We recommend the use of the name of the author, the title of the profile in the form of a chapter of this site, the publication date (if available), the data accessed, and the URL of the profile page. Most resources do not feature a date of publication, but the current year may be used for copyright purposes.

Example in MLA format:

Bird, Katherine E. "The Footprint Of William Cotton On The Eastern Shore." Delmarva
    Settlers.
(2006) 15 November 2006 <http://nabbhistory.salisbury.edu/profiles/cotton.html>.

Citing Databases - Entire Collection
We recommend the use of the name of the compiler or transcriber (if available), the title of the database in the form of a chapter of this site, the publication date (if available), the data accessed, and the URL of the database page. Most resources do not feature a date of publication, but the current year may be used for copyright purposes.

Example in MLA format:

Thompson, G. Ray. "Somerset County Warrant Book, 1670-1681." Delmarva Settlers.
    (2006) 15 November 2006 <http://nabbhistory.salisbury.edu/resources/warrant.html>.

Citing Databases - Individual Record
We recommend the use of as many of these pieces of information as are available: the name of the individual or entity associated with the record, the type of record, the year of the record, the liber/folio or vol/page, the office recorded, the date accessed, and the URL of the record.

Example:

William Furnace, Probate Inventory, 1685, 8.423, Maryland Prerogative Court Inventories and Accounts,
    15 November 2006 <http://nabbhistory.salisbury.edu/mdinvs/soco.html>.
